About Bengaluru

This beautiful city that we call home has a rich history going back centuries.
Legend has it that Bengaluru got its name from the Kannada words for boiled beans — Bendha Kaalu — that was offered to King Veera Ballala of the Hoysala empire, by a poor woman, when he was lost in a jungle.
Touched by her generosity, King Veera Ballala called the area BendhaKaaluooru (city of boiled beans). This later became Bengalooru, and now, Bengaluru.
